I'm sorry fo bugging you with kind-of non-scene matters, but I think it's quite important mention it here in C64 scene news, because it concerns intellectual properties of active C64 sceners.
As published by mainstream geek-news-sites as
digg.com,
slashdot.org, Timbaland, Nelly Furtado?s producer of song "Do It" used major parts of the
GRG?s cover of Tempest?s mod tune called
Acid Jazzed Evening that won assembly 2000 oldschool music compo. According the mentioned sources, Furtado?s producer - Timbaland is responsible for the "Do It" track which apparently takes out practically everything that could be taken out of the original Tempest?s creation. Although this is a quite "old news" for some of you, it seems that only now it?s getting the
buzz that it deserved. We?ll keep you updated.
Check it for yourself from these two youtube videos:
video1,
video2 and this
"Do it" ripoff demonstration.
UPDATE 15. JAN 2007 15:20: GRG's reply on my E-mail. (Thanx Glenn)
Hello Roman,
I have been aware of this for some time now - Tempest has been in contact with me on this issue.
When i arranged this tune i asked Tempest and got the permisson to 'do it'. (The tune was first time used in vandalims news or domination - around 2001/2002 i think.)
Its my sid version that has been sampled in do-it : You can hear that by the 11 waveform bleeps I have put in at random plaves (only 3 voices on a sid you know), the arpeggios are using filters, I can even hear the lead using my multipulse routine (which i rarely use, but i did it on acidjazz.sid ).
Cheers,
Glenn R. Gallefoss
