I listened to Delight while managing my emails and suddenly i realized that I listened to it for 15 minutes, or so. It’s a pretty good bg-tune...

It’s described in the article. Everyone can vote. But special jury-rank will be counted only from ranks of the musicians who participated in the compo. Like in c64.sk sidcompo some 2 yrs ago or so.

I miss something in those tunes. Only "White Light" is more, I don’t know, courageous harmonically? Not to the Gerard Hultink extent, but nevertheless.
I like to complain

1987/8-ish sound seem to be in fashion this year. and yeah, ’kollision’ from 1:23 onwards makes it.

Tune #9. It evolves into a quite optimistic ending which is quite harmonical with the title of the tune.
CreaMD

laser flake was definitely not composed with gt ;) i miss those detuned arpeggios very much ;)

I like "Delight". Listening to it I see a game like "Gordian Tomb": alone man, who has to escape from pyramid or cave. Of course, there’s a lot of skeletons, spiders and bats everywhere... It’s f$%#ng good tune. :]
sdr

[18] : 03. Nov 2006 16:10
That White Light tune is fucking great. Please tell me who composed so I could kiss the composer ASAP!
Jailbird

The other composers composed very nice compositions too but I don’t wanna kiss them as much as the composer of White Light. Very well composed composition.

Mountain Morning sounds really cool
DRAX

CreaMD

Yeah, #10 is definitely not 1987-ish sound... at least not the SIDs dated from that year that I’ve heard.
Anders Carlsson

[30] : 04. Nov 2006 03:14
and that’s good, I might add. i might also add that if somebody’s not sure about the author of #10, he/she should seek a professional help. i might also add that i’m pretty drunk at the moment, but that’s pretty obvious considering everything and particularly the condition of the world and so on and so on

[50] ;-) aahh I was wondering why it sounds so familiar. I’ve heard this tune before in the stuff Zabutom sent me for review. It has typical zabutom’s "noise and hollowness" (probly caused by the deep bass). It’s not cristal crisp polished sound, but nevertheless it has balls and drive! ;-)

[153] It’s also caused by the fact that this time article wasn’t started immediatelly with compo launch. But number of comments doesn’t matter that much anyway ;-) Number of submitted tunes and then votesheets is more important.

This may refer to the recipient’s status as the leader or authority within a particular context, such as a game in progress, or it might be assumed to be a shortened form of a phrase like "You are the (best) man (for that)!"

[336] Naah, not to me... I put down an early ranking, then only few changes occured. Actually, there are few clusters of tunes that would be ranked the same, but for different/opposite reasons. And that’s a real hindrance. But in the end, my charts don’t have shared ranking in all.

[337] It’s okay.. 60-70 votesheets would be enough.. the ammount of musics is critical for easy deciding..yep ;-) Btw. the voting sytem is not that restrictive.. just maybe a bit unfamiliar on first look people just don’t read instrucions.. I need to rework them or something. Next compo I plan to launch ranking system from scratch so people will rank their musics as they come and they won’t have to spend 2 hours listening sessions to get the idea what to put on the first place.

CreaMD [338]: Please think twice about revamping the rules for the compo. If I was to judge the tunes on the fly, e.g. according to the Forever principle, each morning I would wake up with a different idea about what’s worth 5 points and what 1 and what 9. I’d rather ask: is a votesheet NOT filled in while comparing the tunes worth anything? I spent 4 hours - 2 hours listening and 2 ordering - and I’m happy about it. This is the least any SID fan can do for the scene. I think it’s better to receive 30 grounded votes with well-thought feedback than 50 based on random number generation.
Wotnau

[351] : 12. Dec 2006 08:13
[350] Exactly my opinion.
L

[352] : 12. Dec 2006 10:10
[350], [351] I admit that having 30-40 acurate is statistically almost equal to 100, but higher numbers looks better in "media" ;-)

Voting on-fly is imo still fair. Yes there could be problem with XYZ sumbitting tune in the end of the compo and "storming the chart". But I suppose, that as the rules change, the overall evaluation process (the common sense, I would say) also changes. Tune will only "climb" as high as it deserves (in subjective lsitener’s mind). E.g. this year. My fave is Arctic Circles. Albino Human is also great and in some way better that AC, but AC is exactly fitting my overal natural prefferences for dynamic tunes by it’s monumentality and vigor. IMO preferences are mostly fixed, and yeah.. some tunes can get higher if your mood (and current prefferences) are in the optimal state.. I see that even in this year’s compo’s voteshets by some people. They generally vote for what they preffer in current period of life... not just on daily mood basis. I’m considering to try this on-fly voting on cover compo, and if it works ok launch it also on regular sid compo.

[354] : 12. Dec 2006 19:28
CreaMD: I’m sorry but I still disagree, and I’m basing on my personal experience. To make the sorting easier, I originally made 5 categories - "Bad", "Quite Good", "Good", "Good-Cool", "Cool" and I divided the tunes accordingly and planned to sort only within the categories later, i.e. same as giving the tune 1-5 points. The "Bad" category contained just 5 tunes, one of them was I think Exinferis, i.e. somewhere between #31 and #35. After comparing the tunes it climbed up to #11!!! It wasn’t the only case when a tune climbed or fell. The additional listening connected with comparing made me assess the tune better, plus I could see that my judgement was changing throughout the session. Imagine how many more differences there would be if I was voting on the fly during several days... So I’d still prefer votesheet quality over quantity - and not only because I did it the hard way. ;-) Someone support my argumentation please (if you feel like that, that is)! :)

I’ll say Critical Grid Voltage will end on place #1, but I haven’t got a clue who made it (but I haven’t got a clue on the author of most other songs either)

[415] : 20. Dec 2006 16:14
Zugabe, zugabe, zugabe.. The waiting for the results is getting tedious. Do we really have to wait for those missing jury votes? As if they’ll ever come in.
Hein

[416] : 20. Dec 2006 16:26
[413] i’ll give you a very subtle hint: i think it’s done by CreaMD
mike tyson

[417] : 20. Dec 2006 16:32
[415[ Could be the case that some composer’s tune is currently #1 in the jury voting but the composer didn’t hand the votesheet in. I agree though, the delay was sufficiently long, time to count them up and spit out the results sheet.
I’m so drunk I could sterilize by kissing

[418] : 20. Dec 2006 16:50
Then add what composer has send in votes and what composer hasn’t.

Subtract 10 points from all composers that haven’t handed in their votesheets...

or atleast promise a result-release-date and keep it! delaying over and over s...x
no results until xmas...

[422] : 20. Dec 2006 18:05
For jury ranks, I noticed that earlier on the composer who didn’t hand in votes was excluded. Might seem harsh but it’s easy. As for audience ranks, who votes and not shouldn’t be an issue. Sticking to these guidelines that have been used previously should put an end to this.
Dane

[423] : 20. Dec 2006 20:11
[421] Results will be published before XMAS. That is anytime between now and 23.12.2006 I still wait for the last musicians to hand over their votesheets. I’ve got into contact with Jammer and Zabutom, but it seems it’s very hard to make a rank this year. You can judge techincal side, "virtuosity", funkyness, groovyness, crazyness, sincerity (heartfulness) and that can lead to tens of different and pretty valid ranks. (I know what I speak about... I tried to do it myself). I wanted to have jury votes as a sort of serious results if public voting failed.. but it seems that my "happy thoughts" are expired for this year ;-)
Peter ’CreaMD’ Pants

[424] : 20. Dec 2006 21:51
@423: Just by the way, do you realize that you suggest that the public might be stupid? And do you think this will have any positive effect on the number of votesheets delivered from the public for any Sid Compo in the future? Ah well, artists...
A This-Year’s-Voter

[425] : 20. Dec 2006 22:42
[424] If you would be right, then Roman called himself "stupid": "...I know what I speak about... I tried to do it myself...". Often, he clarified his point of view: apart of any different song’s technical impact, this year the personal taste counts much more. Mh, I don’t feel like stupid...or I’m so stupid I don’t feel :)
Luca

[426] : 20. Dec 2006 23:22
[424][425] I must admit, that generally I consider summar of (average of) public opinion less valuable (less valuable for progress of humanity, for progress of movement, or society) than opinion of an individual or group of experts. IMO, what makes this world better isn’t average of our needs and tastes, but individual heroes that shape our views and tastes. (and that doesn’t mean that it’s always a progress in the right direction, but it’s a progress nevertheless) Of course, that doesn’t mean I don’t love to see that e.g. when there was Jury and Public voting last time, Cadaver won public rank. For me, that was quite positive impulse. (coz I think he is a really cool dude and deserved it ;-)) And anyway.. by "if public voting fails" I meant, that if there will be fewer votes than I consider enough, and that was the case this year.
CreaMD

[427] : 21. Dec 2006 00:53
Fair enough. The anonymity of participating musicians seems to have lost its importance though. Hopefully this will speed up Mr Jammer and Mr Zabutom’s voting.

Many great tunes among this 8. Perhaps it would be better to take 10 points away from each instead of disqualifying. Think it’s possible?

[435] No. They will be removed from the final official jury rank. (The actual achieved position might eventually be revealed later in discussion)

I agree with randall, no reason to leave them out the final score, I even think deducting points isnt neccisary.

Luca

[448] : 21. Dec 2006 17:06
see.. I love you all, but when you send tune you suppose that ppl will listen to you.. there was 27 other musicians who listened to your tune and gave out opinion.. they spent their time.. and wrote some comments even.. and then on the other side are you.. the musician who just sent the tune and then gave a flying fuck about the rest of the compo.. do you really feel that it’s fair to ask other musicians to care about you? IMO it’s not.. you deserve to be ignored ... ;-)) Isn’t this thinking fair?

roman >> my surprise is connected somehow with randall’s opinion. some tunes mentioned by him were really underrated also in my opinion. i wasn’t less amazed seeing syndrom’s comeback for example (unless it’s his older stuff dug out after x years)

congratulations to the podium places. =D ane, with more relaxed and not so howling instruments your tune would rule much more. anyway, i think nothing came close to linus’ tune. also nice to see some old dudes back like the syndrom or dr.voice (both great tunes!). and what’s up with <3dalezy<3 again? ;o) merry x-mas to all of you.

I wonder why there is a gentle silence about my tune, seems like it wasn’t good idea to participate. :/ [529] Yeah I’m really glad that again I’ve somehow blindly and without any concept managed to get another musician to the list of SID Compo participants ;-) Pity that Drax decided not to join with the tune he sent me over IRC, I liked it quite a lot. As for underrating. IMO some voters didn’t listen to all tunes very carefully. I’m quite sure that "on-fly" voting/sorting will solve this problem next year and we’ll get fair(er) results & much quicker.

@532: If you’re seeking comments, you have my comment in my votesheet. To sum it up, your tune sounds like you’re exploring some new areas. On the one hand it’s refreshing, on the other hand it will obviously take time until your new style settles down - if it’s your new style, that is.

[539] I was just seeking for some shallow shouts out of surprise like: "so that was you?!?". ;-( ;-))). Anyway, as far as composing is concerned this time I felt some sort of calmness and patience. And I took as much time as I needed.. it felt satysfying to realise that it?s still possible.

Merry Christmas, guys. My top 2 (containing eight entries -- order is not important): First place: 8.0/10 - 13 - a Tune 8.0/10 - 30 - Misunderstandings Second place: 7.0/10 - 35 - Albino Human 7.0/10 - 07 - [hidden] 7.0/10 - 21 - (Everything seems to be) alright 7.0/10 - 10 - Teh disco 7.0/10 - 14 - I swore a vow 7.0/10 - 18 - Arctic Circles I’d be happy to provide the comments I made when judging each individual tunes, in case the composers are interested. I’ll need to get home first, though... Many good tunes this year: Twenty tunes received between 6.0/10 and 8.0/10. Can’t believe Hein’s tune ended so low. Oh, well. Mileages vary, I guess :)

Congratulation to all successful musicians. Especially to DANE. Nice work. From beging to end of compo, after many many times of listening still my number one.
