Why don’t you solve this latest download thing with adding a separate tex-box for it when someone is writing news?
If you have anything to download -> checkbox -> title -> url -> "latest downloads" table.
Voila.

Someone please add http://www.madwizards.org/symphony to the partyscope.

Can a shrinking scene like this one really afford releases in German-only or Polish-only, with a majority of sceners understanding only English and their respective mother tongues?
Dane

[21] : 08. Mar 2003 14:31
My attention was drew up for a separate polish scene few months ago, seems logical to me that a separate scene has a magazine written on its very own language... I guess that a lot of polish sceners don’t know english quite well, so they’re in a need of a media they could understand...?

[22] : 08. Mar 2003 15:30
I can understand this. However, why a ’separate scene’?
Dane

[23] : 08. Mar 2003 18:04
polish (better, eastern) sceners dont seem to be terribly interisted in "merging" with the rest (=english speaking) though... and i dont think its because they dont speak english. (hey, i participated in the scene when i was 12 and hardly knew more than a dozen english phrases copied from some other groups scrolltext :=P) dane: have you ever listened to their music? :=DDD
gpz

If anyone missed it. I’ve just found out this reactions to Dark Court - floppy 2003 special writtne by HCL ;-) As always, i?m a bit late into the discussion.. Graham, unfortunately this demo wasn?t ment for you and i?m not at all surprised that you don?t like it. But agree with me when i say that DeeKay?s 200h-pixeling pictures wouldn?t have made Ind.Brk. any better. Personally i think that those wired pictures fit the whole thing just perfectly. I don?t say it?s beautiful. But as the technical coder i am, i couldn?t let go without including one or two *possibly impressing* effects, just for the satisfaction of people like you and me. You should be able to find them. Or you can as well follow the instructions in the note: Fuck off and wait for the next *very normal* demo. For the real discussion, i?d like to add a few words. Yes, i got all the possible feedback i could ever wish in this review, but don?t think that?s always the case for me. When you make a demo, you?re not only relasing some bytes. You?re taking part of the scene, and you have to coop with it?s reactions. If you can?t stand that someone lets you down, you should start doing something else. Yes, i also think that those who don?t like my demos are idiots, just read my comment to Graham above. So just tell it and forget it. TDJ just wrote the best point: "if demo-reviews are useless, all reactions to a demo are useless.." 10. Mar 2003 15:44 HCL

Walter Konrad - ich verkauf Euch Denkspielschrott

[51] : 22. Mar 2003 01:32
Can you name 5 people who actually play any new C64 games? :D Well, you can at least think of TND games as having quite good lack_of_quality/amount_of_wasted_time ratio (I mean, not too much time spent polishing a turd, unlike some, to whom I of course include myself :)) Ah, perhaps I am overly mean now, but with healthy dose of self-sarcasm..

[52] : 22. Mar 2003 08:16
I would like to play improved River Racers with Wotnau in 2 players when they come out (and will be playable that is). So that are 2... hm.. I sometimes played Rich’s games but not for too long. Balloonacy the most it was quite decent, IMO. Okay okay.. that doesn’t answer your question.. any other ppl playing Rich’s games?

I rather won’t write this reaction directly to CSDB. ..."Steppe, thanx. I know it. But these files I can’t open with a emulator. THAT’s the problem. By the way: cool dudez - cool site! Thanx god I found this site! Greetings to all memberz here!"... Seeing naive behaviour and silly questions (I don’t wan’t to use term lame) in a C64 scene database get’s on my nerves faster than anything else... ;|
CreaMD

[54] : 22. Mar 2003 10:32
Yawn.... morning. Well what do we have here? Well, I think what you have said about TND games is fair enough ;-)) however, there’s more on the way. I’d love to do a full-version of River Racers, but I could do with people doing better graphics. I still got source code for the game, and still got Super Galaxys to work on as well. :)

[55] : 22. Mar 2003 13:21
I don’t have anything against your games Richard, as I don’t play any computer games at all - due to I mostly have much better things to do in my spare time. What keeps busy my mind for a few seconds after I DL and check one of your products, is:

Why the hell don’t you make ONE fine game that takes much more time to produce (to take care about the playabilty, story, graphics, code, music etc.), instead of making a dozen in a month - which almost everyone tend to forget after the first look?

Or, even better: forget games and do more demos. :D

[56] : 22. Mar 2003 16:16
jb: i tried saying that a while ago, as have many others.. save your time, nobody listens and nobody cares :) also i have a pool going on as to what happens to hungary as they have now joined this "war". Remember 1st war 70% landloss 2nd war communism.. this one? Serbia are at 2-1 winners on the land and 5-1 they become a punchline in an adam sandler movie :) see you all in 7 days..

[57] : 22. Mar 2003 16:43
jb: yeah, TND games have been discussed to death :) but I’ll repeat the point I’ve made at csdb one more time: IMO one shouldn’t expect too much when scorecounter is coded like this: inc $0405 lda $0405 cmp #$3a bcc score_end lda #$30 sta $0405 inc $0404 lda $0404 cmp #$3a bcc score_end .. ie. stored directly to screen memory, not anywhere else as a variable, and only incremented by one - what if addition of 250, 500, 1000 points etc. would be needed?! Basically (and I’m not trying to be mean here) Rich lacks some abstraction skills needed in more complex/advanced games. Naturally, I would like to be proved wrong by SuperGalaxys but I’m not expecting much..

[61] : 23. Mar 2003 19:16
Cadaver: I’m going to spend a ’real’ long time working on the Super Galaxys project. As for comments regarding TND games. I guess I should start leaving the games scene and become a demo coder instead. Of course my dream was always to write or program a commodore 64 game, and that had come true. Despite my hard efforts, it appears that my games always seem to use the same sort of code. (Recycled code I guess), but be assured, things should get better in the distant future. This is a shame really because I was planning to do a joint game project with JTR/Protovision to make a freeware game for the 4-player adapter. :( I think Urine or Aldi, Fortress, Lap Dancers or SealSEX can firstrelease River Racers. I wont release it under my lamer label (Da Laxatives) because that would be 100% dumb :)
Richard

[62] : 23. Mar 2003 21:13
Well Rich, I guess it’s all about what you feel as most interesting & appropriate challenge, and where you feel you can progress most. But IMO, time spent on a project alone doesn’t matter, when we’re speaking about programming (polishing gfx, music, gameplay etc. is much more about time, of course :)) The question: do you truly have what it takes to learn, understand & tackle more advanced algorithms, routines & concepts, or is it just dreaming? That I see as the most serious hurdle for you. I’d also recommend some programming work completely outside the C64 (for example, using java or C) to gain wider perspective.

[63] : 24. Mar 2003 08:43
Partly on-topic, partly off-topic, might please both Richard and Lasse, though. I still play C=64 games, so c’mon do _NOT_ become democoders, stay who you are, i.e. Cadaver a good programmer, Richard a good musician ;>

[64] : 24. Mar 2003 11:45
Even something like Blitz BASIC is a good tutorial on how games work; the evaluation copy of Blitz 2D will do everything bar compile the final program and comes with sample graphics and sound so all that’s needed is programming.

Wouldn?t it be good if someone out there started a collection of C64 music editors & routines? I mean there?s so much routines & editors out there who never will see the dayligth. Some examples: Digital Arts routines by Heatcliff/Focus i believe, 20CC editor by Falco Paul, Prosonix music editor, MoN routine.. by the way was there ever an editor for the MoN routine? Charles Deenen said they did the music directly in Assembler but i believe that Reyn Ouwehand said (In HVSC STIL) that he got the "editor" illegaly from Dave hogendorf. Ofcourse if the creators doesn?t want their routines released that?s something we gotta respect. But hey, wouldn?t i be nice? =)
